A Message from The Spires about A Way Of Seeing - our way of seeing.

Hi Everyone - Well, our new record is finally out. It's called A Way Of Seeing, if you didn't already know that by all the posts. It's got 11 songs, comes in a nice fully recyclable gatefold CD (NO PLASTIC) that's our motto from now on (NO FUCKING PLASTIC). It's everywhere - even in the middle of the Indian ocean. I think it's about 40 minutes - not too long right? I think records have gotten too long because of the CD - can't get yer' head around em. Nashville Skyline and The Queen Is Dead are both under 40 minutes and I don't feel cheated.
We recorded about 15 songs at the Garage Majal but ended up scraping about half and the rest where recorded by Justin Dullum at the Blue Room here in our little home town. Don't know what to say about our own recordings except that it seems to have a foot in the past and one in the future (OUR FUTURE). That is to say - it's got some jangle, some noise and some reverb. Three things we have been trying to combine in the right amounts for a while now. Fair amount of piano too. We move slowly toward things though - so look out.
Feels like we want to go in a noisier direction right now but keep things dreamy. Is that possible without sounding like My Bloody Valentine? I think so. Maybe I should lean forward more when I play - play on the front pickup more, play with the windows open when the trash man comes in the morning.
One more thing about All You People, that long last song on the record:
Justin deserves a large amout of the credit for piecing that one together since all I had was two chords and the lyrics. We looped a drum part that Colleen put down and then we had her play some other patterns on her snare rim and Justin dropped them in and out through the song. Then he put down some keyboard patterns and I layered guitar parts as we went along. The plan was to do things on the fly as much as possible just to see what would happen. It was a fun way to work since we played all the other songs pretty much live except for some overdubs.
Hope you like it ------>>>>>>>>
Keep an eye out for Neon Hand and some new Spires at the end of summer.
